Hello! My name is Mary-Catherine Ingaldi and I am a University Hospitals Athletic Trainer here at Perry High School. I completed both my Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training at Mercyhurst University and my Masters Degree in Secondary Education at Mercyhurst University.

I provide care for Pirate Athletes during the following hours:

  • Monday-Friday during the School Year: 2 PM- the end of scheduled practices/home athletic events.

  • I am in on certain Saturdays during the school year for home athletic event coverage.

  • When school is not in session I will have limited availability during scheduled practices and home athletic events.

I am able to provide Pirate High School athletes the following services:

  • Emergency Injury Management

  • Injury Evaluation & Treatment

  • Therapeutic Exercise

  • Wound Care

  • Soft Tissue Mobilization

I am also able to supplement Physical Therapy appointments at Perry High School in the Athletic Training Room and am able to directly communicate with an athlete’s Physical Therapist, Surgeon, and Doctor on where the athlete is at in their return to sports protocol. More information about the Athletic Training profession can be found at: https://www.nata.org/about/athletic-training

I am also able to directly schedule Pirate athletes with our University Hospitals Sports Medicine and Orthopedics Departments, including with our UH Team Physician, Dr. Brian Juriga.

Injury Protocol

All Perry HS and MS coaches have access to an Emergency Action Plan and are briefed on venue-specific protocol for each sport prior to the season.

  • If a coach or Athletic Trainer determines that the athlete is suffering a medical emergency 911 will be called and a parent/guardian will be notified immediately.

  • Athletes, parents, and coaches can reach out to me via text, call, or email if a student athlete has any injury or illness concerns.

  • Athletes will need to provide a signed medical note from any doctor appointment, urgent care visit, or emergency room visit that limits sports participation to their coach and to the Perry HS Athletic Trainer.

  • A signed medical release from an athletes’ doctor will also be needed to allow them to return to sport if any injury or illness limits their sports participation and will be turned into both the athletes coach and to the athletic trainer.

Concussion Care and Treatment

Perry High School in partnership with University Hospitals conducts baseline and post-injury Sway concussion testing as a part of our concussion care and treatment protocol. Sway is a neurocognitive phone application and testing platform that measures an athlete’s balance, reaction time, impulse control, and visual processing. Returning to play following concussion is highly individualized depending on the severity of an athlete’s concussion and their individual signs and symptoms. Mary-Catherine and the athlete’s doctor will communicate frequently to monitor the athlete’s progress and to safely move them through the return to play protocol. The Return to Play protocol is a supervised, minimum of 5-Day protocol that will be completed with Mary-Catherine during normal treatment hours.
