The Perry Wrestling team made history this past weekend, capturing the program’s first District Championship in more than 20 years and sending several athletes on to compete on Ohio’s biggest stage.

Leading the way for Perry were Anthony Trentanelli, Chance Schlauch, Antonius Bertone, and Trent Taylor, who each secured their place in the OHSAA State Wrestling Championships with strong performances at districts. Their efforts helped propel the Pirates to the long-awaited district title and continue what has been an incredible season for the program.

In addition to the four state qualifiers, Landon Rusnak and Dante Villalobos Pacheco also earned impressive finishes and will serve as state alternates.

Chance Schlauch, Antonius Bertone, Trent Taylor, and Landon Rusnak each earned their 100-career wins this season, a testament to their dedication, consistency, and years of hard work on the mat. With the season still underway, they’ll have the opportunity to add even more victories to their already impressive careers.

The Pirates will now set their sights on the OHSAA State Wrestling Championships, which will take place March 13–15 at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center. Competing against the best wrestlers in the state, Perry’s qualifiers will look to continue their strong season and represent their school and community with pride.
